Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez jailed for 14 years for treason



Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez was jailed in a court in Caracas on Thursday after been found guilty of leading the street protest movement which resulting in a bloody clash with the security forces in February a year . 

His lawyer Roberto Marrero said his client was jailed for more than 13 years in a military prison of Ramo Verde, where he has been held since he turned himself in shortly after the protests. A US-trained economist had been in a military prison since February a year ago was accused of violence against the government of President Nicolas Maduro.

"If the sentence condemns me you will be more fearful to read it than it will be to hear it , because you know that I'm innocent," Lopez told the Judge in court.
